March 10, 2014. Since Thursday, Feb. 27, lottery players in North Carolina won more than $28 million in prizes. During that time, players of instant scratch-off games won more than $18.9 million. Players of draw games won more than $9.1 million in total prizes.
“I called the lottery hotline late that night and checked the numbers,” Roxanne Coppedge said. “I didn’t think it was true. I must have called fifty times to make sure. I even slept on the ticket all night to make sure I didn’t lose it.”
“I was getting ready to go to work this morning and I looked up my numbers in the newspaper,” Jesus Madera said. “I didn’t think it was real at first, so I had my wife call the lottery hotline to make sure. After that, I got really excited.”

Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated $270 million if taken as an annuity or $151 million if taken as a lump sum. If no one wins tonight’s jackpot, the March 11 jackpot will be an estimated $309 million annuity or $169.5 million if taken as a lump sum. In Tuesday’s drawing, 58,696 tickets won prizes ranging from $1 to $1,000 totaling $123,872. In the Feb. 28 drawing, 52,190 tickets won $136,730 in prizes ranging from $1 to $2,000.
Saturday’s Powerball players have the chance to win a $50 million jackpot if taken as an annuity or $28.7 million if taken as a lump sum. Wednesday’s Powerball drawing produced 14,542 winning tickets ranging from $4 to $20,000 totaling $217,895.The Saturday, March 1 Powerball drawing produced 18,233 winning tickets ranging from $4 to $2 million totaling $4,174,645.
