Renowned Town Development Professional To Present at BRCA Meeting June 30

The Blowing Rock Civic Association is very pleased to present “Nationally Famous Town Development Professional Terry Shook Community Meeting” on Thursday June 30,2016,at Chetola Resort’s Evergreen Room.The meeting will start with a reception at 5:30 P.M. and the program follows at 6 p.m.

Mr. Shook specializes in developing creative concepts that emphasize the history and unique character of communities while developing additions that preserve and enhance communities. He and his firm create plans designed to position communities to be positive, enjoyable gather ing places well into the future.

Terry-Shook2-300x226Among his many accomplishments are planning of very successful developments in downtown Charlotte,Charlotte’s South End,other Charlotte area developments,extensive planning for successful developments in the Charleston, S.C. area, planning for downtown Cornelius, planning for Hilo, Hawaii, and planning for many other cities and towns across America including his current work on a master plan for downtown Detroit.

Mr. Shook is very familiar with Blowing Rock having visited and enjoyed it many times over the years. Mr. Shook’s accomplishments have been recognized by a number of organizations including the Clinton Library & School of Public Service. He is a lecturer in the Professional Development Program at Harvard University.

He has also made presentations to the International Council of Shopping Centers,the International Downtown Association,the National Trust for Historic Preservation,the American Planning Association,and the Urban Institute. At this critical point in the history of Blowing Rock with the Highway 321 widening, the new Chestnut Ridge healthcare development, and other significant developments in the planning stages Mr. Shook’s insights and experience will provide useful information to homeowners, property owners, business owners, other residents, potential developers, frequent visitors and those who work in Blowing Rock.

A panel of local residents will ask Mr. Shook questions. The Blowing Rock Civic Association is a community educational, nonprofit organization with a mission to protect and improve the quality of life in Blowing Rock.
