N.C. Lottery Last Week: Fayetteville Players Win Two $1M Prizes and a $150,000 Prize

Jan. 12, 2015. Lottery players in Fayetteville are on a lucky streak as three people have claimed big prizes playing instant scratch-off games since Sunday.

The latest big win went to Richard James, who claimed the top prize in the $1,000,000 Jackpot game on Thursday. He purchased the $10 ticket that morning at the Circle B on North Reilly Road in Fayetteville. {Read More}

A second $1 million prize went to retired Army Sgt. Maj. George Brooks, who plans to use the money he won playing the $200 Million Blowout game to buy a new home, help the homeless and donate to the ASPCA. On Monday, Kelly Williams of Fayetteville started the streak with a $150,000 top prize in the Jumbo Jingle Bucks game. She purchased the $5 ticket, worth $103,876 after required state and federal withholdings, at the Short Stop on Morganton Road in Fayetteville. {Read More}

The Mega Millions jackpot has been on a roll for 18 straight drawings, and is now estimated at a $221 million annuity for Friday’s drawing. If won and claimed as a lump sum, it would be worth $144.8 million cash. Two North Carolina Mega Millions players have won jackpots ranging from $12 million to $57 million.

Saturday’s Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $162 million annuity, worth $105.5 million cash. The jackpot was last won on Nov. 29. North Carolina has had three Powerball jackpot winners who won between $74.5 million and $141.4 million.

From Jan. 2 through Jan. 8, lottery players across the state won more than $27.6 million in prizes. Instant players won more than $20.5 million and draw game players won more than $7.1 million. Tickets for North Carolina draw games – Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5 and All or Nothing – won more than $5.7 million. Since last weekend’s drawings, Mega Millions and Powerball players won more than $1.4 million in prizes.

Eleven players scratched or matched for wins of $10,000 to $55,535. In alphabetical order by the winner’s hometown, they are:

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.5 billion for the state. Net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
