N.C. Lottery: Four Wins of $200,000 to $1M Among $30M in Prizes Last Week

Two $1 million prizes, a player’s second Cash 5 jackpot and a $200,000 scratch-off prize were among the biggest and best of the week as lottery players statewide won $30 million this week.

March has been a lucky month for McDowell County. Russell Guffey, a sales representative from Nebo, collected a $1 million prize in the $200 Million Blowout game on Thursday. For the second time in less than two weeks, an Eastern North Carolina player has won the $200,000 top prize on a 20X The Cash ticket. Earlina Robinson of Mount Olive purchased her lucky $5 ticket at the Arrington Mart on Bill Lane Boulevard in Dudley. {Read More}

John Grabski, a retired airline mechanic from Charlotte, won his second Carolina Cash 5 jackpot in five years. He claimed the $424,168 jackpot on Wednesday. {Read More}

Daniel Allen of Waxhaw in Union County beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million to win a $1 million Powerball prize in Saturday’sdrawing. The win continued a lucky streak for North Carolinians in the Powerball game. The streak includes a North Carolina woman having one of the three lucky tickets that shared a $564 million Powerball jackpot in February and six wins of $1 million in the game so far this year. {Read More}

The Powerball jackpot has climbed back into triple-digit millions with a $137 million jackpot annuity up for grabs inSaturday’s drawing. If claimed as a lump sum, the winner would take home $87.9 million. North Carolina has had four Powerball jackpot winners of $74.5 million to $188 million.

From March 6 through March 12, instant players won $24.6 million and draw game players won $5.4 million, including $4 million from North Carolina draw games Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5 and All or Nothing. Since last weekend’s drawings, Mega Millions and Powerball players won more than $1.4 million in prizes bringing the seven-day total to more than $30 million in prizes statewide.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.6 billion for the state. Net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
