Aug. 28, 2014. As motorists take to the roads this Labor Day weekend for one last summer trip, the N.C. Department of Transportation is suspending lane closures along the U.S. 321 widening project in Blowing Rock.
No lane closures will be allowed from Friday, Aug. 29, at 6 a.m. through Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. The lane closure suspension and limited construction operations will help increased holiday traffic flow more smoothly through the widening project. Crews from contractor Maymead Inc. will be working on the project during some of this time, but the work shouldn’t have a major impact on motorists.
The speed limit along the U.S. 321 widening project is 35 mph. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and look out for any construction crews who could be working beside the highway. The N.C. State Highway Patrol will be monitoring the corridor for violations.
A portion of Skyland View Drive in Blowing Rock will remain closed during Labor Day weekend as part of an intersection realignment project that began in early August. Motorists will also notice new traffic patterns between Sunset Drive and Skyland View Drive.
