Racecar drivers and fans gathered this past weekend for another Saturday evening of racing at the Mountain View Speedway in the High Country Fairgrounds off of Roby Greene Road in Boone.

Billed as a family-friendly, alcohol-free event, the one-quarter-mile Mountain View Speedway re-opened last summer after a nearly 20-year hiatus. Racing takes place each Saturday and generally ends before 10 p.m.

This past Saturday, April 23, benefited the Aldridge family of Foscoe, who lost their eldest child, Brandon H. Aldridge, 16, in a car accident on March 13. It was also Hometown Heroes Night in honor of military, fire, EMS and police personnel.

“Another great night of racing and over $1000 raised for a good family – and done before 10 p.m. We thank everyone who came out tonight,” Mountain View Speedway posted on Facebook following the races. “See everyone next week as the Carolina No Bull Sprint Cars will be in town.”

In addition, Saturday, April 30, Mountain View Speedway will host “Kids’ Day,” which will benefit Camp New Hope. Activities for the kids from 1 to 3 p.m. include meet-and-greet with drivers, Tow Mater and Thomas the Train, kids’ bicycle race, kids’ corn hole challenge and, of course, the regular-scheduled Saturday events.

Ticket prices are as follows: General Admission Adults: $10; Kids 7-10: $2; Under 6: Free; and Skybox Seats: $12. Note that general admission tickets are $12 this coming Saturday because of the special events.

Currently, the town has a cease-and-desist order issued for the Mountain View Speedway, but the racing group has pledged to fight the order in court. It also vows to remain operating each Saturday during the racing season amidst the  legal limbo. Read about that issue here.
