June 13, 2013. Critically acclaimed old-time mountain music band, Big Medicine, kicks off the first Mountain Home Music (MHM) show of the summer 2013 season June 15 at the First Baptist Church of Blowing Rock. The concert, which is a true celebration of Appalachian culture, begins at 7:30 p.m.

“That’s how string band music is supposed to sound… absolutely effortless,” Keillor said.

Big Medicine’s passion for old-time music goes back generations with traditional music that has been passed along from patron to patron for years. The four-member band plays mountain music using guitars, banjos, fiddles and more.

MHM is a historic building block in preserving the unique arts of the High Country. The mission of MHM is to honor the diverse styles of Appalachian performing arts. The nonprofit group strives to educate and build community through the arts, providing accessible cross-generational experiences.

The MHM concert series has been a part of the Appalachian performing arts culture since its inception in 1994. Concerts are held about once every week. Coming up later this month is Jeff Little with Steve Lewis and Josh Scott on Saturday, June 22. The next show on Saturday, June 29, features Carolina Crossing and the Silver Strings Dulcimer Band at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door for adults. Students receive a discounted rate of $10 in advance or at the door. Children age 12 and under are admitted free into most concert events, but a $5 charge may be applied.

The MHM concert season runs from mid-May to early December. For information about concerts, tickets and venues, click here. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact 828-265-2047.
