Feb. 18, 2014. Heritage Hall Theatre, Mountain City’s live performance venue, will open its 2014 season with the Barter Players production of Little House on the Prairie on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
Based on the classic books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and adapted for the stage by Pamela Stirling, the play follows the Ingalls family’s westward journey, a covered-wagon adventure through Indian territory and America’s Frontier.
The Barter Players production of Little House on the Prairie at Heritage Hall Theatre will be a feature of their annual East Coast tour.
“I was amazed with how well they create the aura of the outside setting with the schooner wagon going across the prairie and everything,” said Wanda Payne, marketing director for Heritage Hall. “They do a really good job of creating the scenario for the story.”
The Barter Players are a Virginia-based acting troupe of six artists dedicated to performing classic literature and beloved stories for youth of all ages and backgrounds in their characteristic combination of education and high-energy entertainment.
Johnson County schoolchildren will be treated to the Barter Players brand of educational entertainment with their production of The Emperor’s New Groove in the morning and afternoon of Feb. 20, hosted and funded by Heritage Hall Theatre. Little House on the Prairie will be performed that night and is open to the entire community.
“We bring them in to do a free show for 800 schoolchildren during the school day and the school system buses them in,” said Payne. “We do a big bake sale fundraiser in the spring to help pay for it. It’s our service to the children of the community.”
Heritage Hall Theatre is a non-profit organization committed to housing quality performing arts events at affordable prices. The live performance venue was established in 2005 after extensive renovations to an old high school auditorium.
The 2014 performance season at Heritage Hall is stocked with a series of excellent performances at reasonable prices, including two more Barter Players productions.
All tickets for Little House on the Prairie will be $5 at the door at least 30 minutes prior to the performance. For information on purchasing tickets click here or call the Box Office at (423)727-7444 and leave a message.
