Motown in the Mountains Benefits Boone Service League April 17 at Green Park Inn

On Friday, April 17, the Boone Service League will once again help you shake off those winter doldrums and put a whole lotta’ soul into springtime with the fourth annual Motown in the Mountains fundraiser at Blowing Rock’s Green Park Inn.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with music by funk, soul and classic rock band Soul Benefactor to start at 6:30 p.m. In addition to music and dancing, the evening includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live and silent auctions of fantastic items from area and regional businesses. Tickets are $40 each. The live auction begins around 8 p.m., with more music to follow.

No Boone area band inspires feet to hit the dance floor quite like Soul Benefactor, who have mastered an extensive set list of timeless Motown tunes from the legendary Detroit record company. Dance the night away to hits from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Martha & The Vandellas and more. Joining the band will be members of Boone’s Junaluska Gospel Choir.SB Press Photo 2014

This year’s auction packages include Disney World passes, resort stays, wine tours and dinners, a Westglow Spa package, Charlotte Motor Speedway tickets, a weekend getaway to Abingdon, Va., an Appalachian Ski Mountain season pass, MerleFest tickets, gift certificates from the area’s finest restaurants and much, much more.

Jesse Miller of Watauga Insurance Agency will serve as auctioneer.

Established in 1957, the Boone Service League is a women’s civic organization serving Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties. Each year, the Boone Service League awards grants to High Country organizations and presents scholarships to high school seniors. Boone Service League members also hold food and supplies drives, volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and provide financial assistance to families in crisis.

Motown in the Mountains is the nonprofit’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year.

Sponsors of this year’s fundraiser include Boone Dermatology Clinic, Allen Wealth Management, Mountain Times Publications, Echota, Deer Valley Racquet Club, the ASU Office of Arts and Cultural Programs, Bubbles Car Wash and many others.
