Motorists are reporting that traffic was first stopped on N.C. Highway 105 between Linville and the Tynecastle area around 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon due to a wreck.
Reports indicate that folks traveling toward Blowing Rock are being directed to take the parkway and those heading the other direction are being detoured through Newland.
A local driver told the High Country Press that it took her nearly two hours to get out of the traffic, which was backed up from Linville to Invershiel, Invershiel to Foscoe, Inervshiel to Banner Elk and on the other side of Linville. She said that N.C. 105 was completely blocked and, to escape the traffic block, she had to travel Hickory Nut Gap all the way to Newland.
The motorist said a deputy responding to the crash told her a dump truck and a car were involved in the wreck, but HCP has not been able to confirm that information yet.
Watauga County Roads and Weather Conditions reported that scanner traffic indicates the wreck involved at least one fatality.
No further information about the crash is available at the moment.
