A reporter from CNN stood in front of the Best Western hotel in Boone after an 11-year-old boy died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Room 225, two months after an elderly couple died in the same room. The Boone Police Department has since concluded its five-month investigation into the deaths and turned over its report to the District Attorney’s Office, which will make a decision in January on whether to prosecute or not.

Nearly five years after the journey began, Blowing Rock Brewing Company brews and serves its own award-winning beers in the Blowing Rock Ale House and Inn in downtown Blowing Rock.

House Bill that relieves Eustace Conway of Turtle Island Preserve of complying with building codes for primitive structures passes. The Watauga County Planning & Inspections Director Joe Furman says the bill speaks for itself and that his department has no plans to visit the preserve.

The State Climate Office of North Carolina notes that the second wettest June on record since 1895 took place in 2013. The rains didn’t stop either. While it rained nearly eight inches in Boone in June, it rained 13 inches in just the first half of July.
