Moskowitz Gallery Naming Celebration Held Friday, July 11 at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

June 26, 2014. Members of the community are invited to celebrate the naming of the Barbara Moskowitz Gallery in the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts during the summer exhibition celebration on Friday, July 11 from 6-10 p.m. on the campus of Appalachian State University.

barbara_moskowitz_galleryThe gallery, located on the main floor of the center’s west wing, contains exhibition, study and work space, computer stations and resources related to exhibits on display.

Moskowitz is charwoman of the 18-member Turchin Center Advisory Board. She and her husband, retired surgeon Mark Moskowitz, MD., reside in Gastonia and Watauga County. He is a member of An Appalachian Summer Festival advisory board.

In addition to the naming gift, the Moskowitzes are donors to the Turchin Center’s Permanent Collection, which maintains an inventory of more than 1,600 objects including two and three dimensional works of art. Works from the collection’s loan program are installed in public places across campus in addition to Turchin Center galleries. The couple also support An Appalachian Summer Festival, a multi-arts festival held on campus.

Moskowitz is a former technical sales specialist with Corning Medical. She is a member and past president of the Gaston County Medical Society Alliance. She has been a member of the Gaston County Arts Council board for five years and served on the Alliance for Children and Youth board for ten years, including a term as past president.

She and her husband are members and former co-presidents of Temple Emanuel in Gastonia. She also is a Sunday school teacher and president of the Temple Emanuel Sisterhood. A native of Atlanta, Moskowitz has a Bachelor of Science degree from the Medical College of Georgia and a Master of Arts Degree from the university of Alabama at Birmingham.
