April 4, 2013. Spring arrived on March 20 but since that time it certainly hasn’t felt like it. Now, with snow, freezing rain and a high of only 35 degrees in the forecast today, High Country residents are in for another round of unseasonable weather. While you’re warm inside on your computer, check out our brand new interactive weather radar where you can watch the storm roll in.

The new High Country Press weather radar includes a wide range of features, including displaying weather in motion, wind, temperature and severe alert data. You can also zoom in or out to show exactly the area you want to see the weather for.

This strange winter-like start to spring has many in the High Country scratching their heads. According to Ray’s Weather Center, the thermometers have not even reached 60 degrees in the Boone area since the beginning of spring.

Today, a low pressure tracking along the Gulf Coast will result in potentially hazardous winter weather, with freezing rain and one to three inches of snow in the forecast. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Watauga County until 6 p.m. today.

So, is it ever going to feel like spring? That’s the million dollar question and the answer is, emphatically, yes! In a big way! We will all start to feel a drastic change beginning this weekend, particularly on Sunday when temperatures are expected to climb into the 60s for the first time since the start of spring. The weekend is also looking to be pretty dry and sunny.

Looking further out, temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-60s through Wednesday of next week and only fall into the upper 50s towards the end of next week. There is also only a slight chance of rain for much of next week and, at least through Wednesday, it looks like there will be plenty of sunshine.
