The demolition for the planned “The Standard of Boone” development, located on a blighted stretch of property in between Faculty Street and Blowing Rock Road, continues.
The demolition began in February after Stonegate Developers secured the necessary permits and closed on the property, which features Red Carpet Inn, Scottish Inn and a number of old houses and apartments. According to the Watauga County Register of Deeds,developers purchased the parcels for a combined $4,058,000.
In June 2014, the Boone Town Council approved a zoning request for the development. According to preliminary plans released at the time, the five-story project features 450 beds with 9,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor along the main highway and a five-level parking deck with 490 parking spaces.
The development also features daylighting the creek and moving it closer to Faculty Street, a project which is estimated to cost $2 million. As for what businesses would be housed in the commercial space, Tweedy said that negotiations have begun with three undisclosed businesses.
The development is still on schedule to open before the fall semester in 2016.
