Monday Music Mash-Up; Our Listing of Live Music from Around the High Country for the Week of Nov. 24-30

Nov. 24, 2014. Nothing says autumn like live music, and the High Country has enough live music events to keep you tapping your toes all season long. Each week, the Monday Music Mash-up is your go-to spot to find the latest news on concerts, shows and gigs all throughout the High Country. Check out the website every Monday for the latest lineup, and make a plan to enjoy some tunes this fall.

The Watauga Community Band will hold their weekly rehearsal on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the rehearsal hall at the Broyhill Music Center. The band performs several concerts of various styles of music throughout the year, and is open to community members who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. ASU and CCC students may receive class credit if desired.

Twig’s Restaurant in Blowing Rock hosts live music every Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. featuring great local and regional artists with no cover charge.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, Mountain Home Music will host “A Celtic Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth of the High Country. LITTLE WINDOWS, is a duo that mix Appalachian and Irish music, along with traditionally based originals, that includes a special focus on unaccompanied ballads. Mark Weems and Julee Glaub Weems tour together nationally and abroad with a focus on the art of the pure voice with tight harmonies in traditional songs. Instrumentation includes guitar, fiddle, banjo, flute, dulcimer, piano and bodhrn. In addition to performing concerts, they also teach workshops and music camps around the country.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, at Lost Province, Boone vocalist, Maureen Renihan is taking the stage singing jazz and holiday classics. Renihan has always considered herself an actress that sings and has performed in several area theater productions. After connecting with local jazz musicians, she began singing with a quintet and big band until recently branching out on her own. Accompanied by talented and accomplished jazz musicians, performances feature: ASU faculty Keith McCutchen and Andy Page, as well as Nathan Hefner from Hickory and Troy Conn from Charlotte.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, the weekly Blues Porch Jam will take place at the Blue Ridge ArtSpace. This Blues-Centric Jam Session features the Blues but caters to the whims, interests, and favorite tunes of those present. Musicians, vocalists, foot-stompers, groupies – all are welcome to this unplugged (no amps) session each Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, Nov. 30, the Green Park Inn’s Music on the Veranda will present The Todd Wright Jazz Quartet starting at 5 p.m. For more information about this event, call 828-414-9230.

On Sunday, Nov. 30, Canyons in Blowing Rock will host the weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch with Todd Wright. Starting at 11 a.m., the event will feature live jazz music at Canyons located at 8960 Valley Blvd. in Blowing Rock. For more information about this event, call 828-295-7661.
