Monday Music Mash-Up; Our Listing of Live Music from Around the High Country for the Week of Jan. 5-11

Jan. 5, 2015. Nothing warms you up in the winter like live music, and the High Country has enough live music events to keep you tapping your toes all season long. Each week, the Monday Music Mash-up is your go-to spot to find the latest news on concerts, shows and gigs all throughout the High Country. Check out the website every Monday for the latest lineup, and make a plan to enjoy some tunes this fall.


The Watauga Community Band will hold its practice on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The band performs several concerts of various styles of music throughout the year, and is open to community members who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. ASU and CCC students may receive class credit if desired.

Beginner Shag Dance lessons just in time for Valentine’s Day! Lessons will be on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Boone. The price is $30 for six weeks, starting Jan. 6. For more information, contact Boone Shag Club President Chip Nowood at 828-963-2665.

Twig”s Restaurant in Blowing Rock hosts live music every Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. featuring great local and regional artists with no cover charge.

On Friday, Jan. 9, Lost Province Brewing Company will host Freakin” Firkin Friday at Five with the release of a special 12-gallon cask of beer at 5 p.m. This week”s concoction is local ginseng, honey and green tea inflused cream ale. Live music courtesy of Holden Bare will be held from 8-11 p.m.

Zach Deputy will be performing live throughout Beech Mountain Resort”s Beer Festival on Jan. 10. Zach Deputy offers a true one-man-band powerhouse of performance. Layering sounds through the magic of technology, this soulful singer and shredding guitarist captures his audience with his unique and unmatched talent. Be ready for a foot-stomping, glass raising kind of night! For a limited time tickets are on sale now for $40. Advance Tickets are $45 and Day of Tickets are $55.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, Lost Province Brewing Company will host live music featuring Andy Ferrell and friend with an optional cover charge.

On Sunday, Jan. 11, the Green Park Inn’s Music on the Veranda (Indoors!) will present The Todd Wright Jazz Quartet at 5 p.m. For more information about this event, call 828-414-9230.

On Sunday, Jan. 11, Canyons in Blowing Rock will host the weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch with Todd Wright. Starting at 11 a.m., the event will feature live jazz music at Canyons located at 8960 Valley Blvd. in Blowing Rock. For more information about this event, call 828-295-7661.
