Monday Music Mash-Up; Our Listing of Live Music from Around the High Country for the Week of Feb. 9-15

Feb. 9, 2015. Nothing warms you up in the winter like live music, and the High Country has enough live music events to keep you tapping your toes all season long. Each week, the Monday Music Mash-up is your go-to spot to find the latest news on concerts, shows and gigs all throughout the High Country. Check out the website every Monday for the latest lineup, and make a plan to enjoy some tunes this winter.

The Watauga Community Band will hold its practice on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The band performs several concerts of various styles of music throughout the year, and is open to community members who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. ASU and CCC students may receive class credit if desired.

Beginner Shag Lessons! Dance lessons just in time for Valentine’s Day! Lessons will be on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Boone. The price is $30 for six weeks, starting Jan. 6. For more information, contact Boone Shag Club President Chip Nowood at 828-963-2665.

Boone Healing Arts Center will host modern dance lessons on Wednesdays. In this Modern Dance class, participants will explore full-body movements, technical specificity and strength building as they experience the sensation of moving through space and time. To correspond with the New Year, the theme for music in January”s Modern Dance Class is “A New Start”.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, The Pedalin” Pig will host live acoustic music in the bar area. For more information, call the Pedalin” Pig at 828-898-7500.

Summer fiddlers conventions, festivals and campfires are coming down the pike, and dozens of musicians will be gearing up for picking season with weekly music lessons at the Jones House starting on Feb. 5. The Town of Boone’s Cultural Resources Department is currently accepting new enrollment in the popular Boone JAMS music lessons program, which is open to kids from age six and up, including adults. Twig’s Restaurant in Blowing Rock hosts live music every Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. featuring great local and regional artists with no cover charge.

Timberlake’s Restaurant at Chetola Resort will host Friday Night Jazz starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. The Maureen Renihan Jazz Trio will perform for restaurant patrons.

On Friday, Feb. 13, Lost Province Brewing Company will host Freakin’ Firkin Friday at Five with the release of a special 12-gallon cask of beer at 5 p.m. along with live music.

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM) invites the community to celebrate the opening of four brand new exhibitions on Friday, Feb. 13, at 5:30-7 p.m. As part of the event, the museum will provide free admission, refreshments and live music by Robert Steadman Jr. throughout the evening.

On Sunday, Jan. Feb. 15, Canyons in Blowing Rock will host the weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch with Todd Wright. Starting at 11 a.m., the event will feature live jazz music at Canyons located at 8960 Valley Blvd. in Blowing Rock. For more information about this event, call 828-295-7661.
