Monday Music Mash-Up; Our Listing of Live Music from Around the High Country for the Week of Dec. 8-14

Dec. 8, 2014. Nothing warms you up in the winter like live music, and the High Country has enough live music events to keep you tapping your toes all season long. Each week, the Monday Music Mash-up is your go-to spot to find the latest news on concerts, shows and gigs all throughout the High Country. Check out the website every Monday for the latest lineup, and make a plan to enjoy some tunes this fall.

The Watauga Community Band will not have practice this week and is on winter break until Jan. 3. The band performs several concerts of various styles of music throughout the year, and is open to community members who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. ASU and CCC students may receive class credit if desired.

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Lost Province Brewing Company will host live music by Matt Walsh. The music will start at 8 p.m. Matt Walsh loves Old School Chicago Blues and has already gone a long way towards playing it with an authentic tone and command of the guitar language.

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 6-9 p.m., Maureen Renihan and Andy Page Jazz Duo will perform at Timberlake’s at Chetola in Blowing Rock.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, Lost Province Brewing Company will host live music by Dr. Bacon. Music will begin at 10 p.m. Dr. Bacon is a seven-piece, acoustically-driven party band that blends diverse instrumentation with equally diverse musical genres.

On Friday, Dec. 12, Caroling will be held at the Boone Mall. Local church choirs and ensembles present Christmas carols, traditional and new. Stop by to hear these beautiful songs about Christ’s birth and let what you hear remind you of why we celebrate Christmas!

Twig’s Restaurant in Blowing Rock hosts live music every Friday and Saturday night, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. featuring great local and regional artists with no cover charge.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Blue Ridge ArtSpace will host the Blues Porch Jam. This Blues-Centric Jam Session features the Blues but caters to the whims, interests, and favorite tunes of those present. Musicians, vocalists, foot-stompers, groupies – all are welcome to this unplugged (no amps) session each Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, the Green Park Inn’s Music on the Veranda (Indoors!) will present The Neighbors starting at 5 p.m. For more information about this event, call 828-414-9230.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, Canyons in Blowing Rock will host the weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch with Todd Wright. Starting at 11 a.m., the event will feature live jazz music at Canyons located at 8960 Valley Blvd. in Blowing Rock. For more information about this event, call 828-295-7661.
