“A Moment in Time” at Carlton Gallery’s 35th Anniversary Spring Group Exhibition, May 27-July 15

“Melon Rouge” by Mary Dobbin, oil on canvas.

In appreciation to our patrons, art lovers and visitors for its 35th Anniversary, Toni Carlton, owner of Carlton Gallery, extends an invitation to everyone to visit the gallery for its Spring Group Exhibition with an Artists’ Reception on Saturday, May 27, 2-5 pm. This exhibition showcases the art of the gallery’s many local, regional and national artists whose mediums are oils, acrylics, mixed media, pastel, water color, pencil/ink, glass, wood, metal, fiber, clay and jewelry. Some of the standing gallery artists will be in attendance to discuss their art work. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and this exhibition is free.

During this time in the High Country, there is an endless supply of subject matter – artists look to the great outdoors to find breathtaking scenes, florals and botanicals to capture on canvas. Whether from a distance or up close, detailed depictions of mountain vistas, florals and botanicals have a reverence for nature and vary greatly in style and medium. New paintings on exhibit are abstracted landscapes by Andrew Braitman and Kate Worm; traditional landscapes by Dottie Leatherwood, Sharon Rusch Shaver and Linda Apriletti; flora and fauna by Trena McNabb and Marion Cloaninger; leaves and florals by Tonya Bottomley and Debbie Arnold; ethereal paintings by Amy Sullivan, along with colorful abstracted equine paintings by Laura Hughes. This eclectic collection makes an outstanding exhibition for Carlton Gallery’s 35th Anniversary.

This 35th Anniversary Spring Group Exhibition also features “A Moment in Time – Florals, Still Lifes and Interiors” by Mary Dobbin, Connie Winters, Gina Strumpf and Helen Farson. Each artist has captured on canvas moments of joy and beauty – the quiet majesty of the natural world.

The florals by Gina Strumpf and Helen Farson depict gentle and harmonious color transitions from the flower center to the edge with an elegance of its form and structure. This beauty is ephemeral and transitional – it does not last long. These artists’ inspiration to paint fleeting masterpieces of nature gives great pleasure and pays homage by striking a balance with the perfect setting shown in optimum light, combined with the subject’s prime time, show-off moment.

The still lifes and interiors by Mary Dobbin and Connie Winters capture and evoke emotion of usually a peaceful and nostalgic nature. Flowers and other objects are utilized as they allow the painting and the viewing of it to become a sensual experience, as perhaps, memories are stimulated. Their paintings portray a moment in time of a place dedicated to beauty, harmony and contemplation with a stirring, soulful beauty that stays with you after you have left the space.
