The missing pregnant woman from Salisbury, Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther, 49, has been found in Boone, according to Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman.
Bradshaw-Crowther went missing on Tuesday morning, hours before she was scheduled to have a C-section birth. Her daughter, who was caring for Bradshaw-Crowther, left to go get some gas for about 10 minutes and found that her mother was gone, driving away in a Mazda van with Kansas tags.
Police said that she left on her own will, taking her wallet and cellphone, but leaving her purse and suitcase behind, according to local news reports. On Wednesday, surveillance footage captured Bradshaw-Crowther at a gas station in Statesville. This was the last “official sighting” according to the Missing Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther Facebook page.
On Monday at 1 p.m., Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain Kelly Redmond received a report of a BOLO (be on the lookout) for Bradshaw-Crowther’s champagne-colored Mazda van with Kansas tags.
Redmond observed the vehicle pull into the Wilco-Hess on N.C. Highway 105 near Homespun Hills Road and pulled near the vehicle without activating emergency lights.
“A female exited the vehicle and reported, I am Carrie,” according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office. “She has been identified … and is being medically evaluated at the Watauga Medical Center.”
Just after 2 p.m., Cynthia Caron, founder of LostNMissing, posted on the Missing Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther Facebook page that Carrie’s family is now enroute to Boone: “Carrie’s family is enroute to a location in Boone, NC , as a female matching Carrie’s description has been taken to a medical facility. We’re all praying this is in fact Carrie and will keep all posted. We are waiting for hopeful positive news.”
The status of her health is unknown and it isn’t clear why she decided to leave.
Hagaman noted that now that Bradshaw-Crowther is in the hospital, he won’t provide any updates because of HIPAA privacy concerns. A spokesperson for Appalachian Regional Healthcare System didn’t immediately respond to a media request.
Yesterday, Caron asked folks not to speculate regarding her disappearance.
“We do not know if she is distressed, if she is scared, or if she is in a confused state…we just do not know. There are a number of serious medical conditions! From stroke to Hippocampas Amnesia to organic conditions and even brain tumor or lesions that could cause one to go missing due to the condition and not of choice,” Caron wrote. “What we DO know is she is loved very much and she is in need of medical attention for her condition that makes a natural delivery life threatening.”
