March 19, 2014. The Town of Boone recognized Joe Shannon on Tuesday evening by adopting a resolution of appreciation for enriching the community by preserving the cultural heritage of Appalachia.

Shannon, who is leaving the High Country to live with family in Florida on Wednesday, was diagnosed with cancer in late 2012. He recently stepped down as the executive director of Mountain Home Music, a nonprofit music series that he founded 20 years ago in Boone. In an interview in January, Shannon said that he started the music concert to honor the local styles of music and the many, many talented yet relatively unknown musicians in the region.

See the entire resolution below, and click to stories recently written about Shannon and his legacy that is the Mountain Home Music series.
