Feb. 10, 2014. A memorial service for the late Dara Watson is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. The remembrance, hosted by Cornerstone Summit Church of Boone, will take place on the Jones House lawn in downtown Boone. Members of the community are invited.
The daughter of Darrel and Ellen Watson, owners of Watsonatta Western World on King Street, Watson was killed on Feb. 6, 2012, by her fiancé who then committed suicide. Her body was found more than a week later in a shallow grave in the Francis Marion National Forest.
Those who knew Watson described her as a strong, spirited woman, one with a positive attitude. She also had a smile that could light up a room.
She was 30 years old.
