Once again, Appalachian Ski Mtn. ended the winter season in style with the wild-and-crazy Meltdown Games this past weekend.

“The Meltdown Games were a great time as always, [and] a fun way to wind down the season,” Appalachian Ski Mtn. spokesman Drew Stanley said.

TWS_6214-1Stanley said that the Blowing Rock ski resort wasn’t able to put on the pond skim. However in lieu of that popular event, organizers added the Uphill Challenge, where skiers and snowboarders hike from the bottom to the top of the mountain decked out in their gear.

While the Meltdown Games signified the end of the season in every previous year, Appalachian Ski Mtn. opted to stay open a little bit longer. On Wednesday, it finally closed.

As of Tuesday, Appalachian Ski Mtn. was the only ski resort south of New York open on the East Coast. It operated on the last day of the year with eight of its 12 slopes open

“We would like to thank all of our guests and employees for another great season, and are already getting excited about 2016-17!” Appalachian Ski Mtn. posted on its website.
