Kruger Brothers Kick Off ASU’s Performing Arts Series Performing ‘Appalachian Concerto’ Thursday, Sept. 13

Sept. 12, 2012. Appalachian State University’s Performing Arts Series announces its 2012-13 schedule highlighted with many collaborations with campus and community partners. Beginning Sept. 13, 2012 with The Kruger Brothers performing Appalachian Concerto, featuring Appalachian’s Hayes Faculty Ensemble and ending April 16, 2013 with An Evening with Garrison Keillor and Musical Guests, the 2012-13 Performing Arts Series spans the entire academic year with events ranging from music, theatre and opera.

Composed in 2010, Appalachian Concerto was commissioned by the Ashe County Arts Council and is a work for banjo, bass, guitar and string quartet. Innovative, challenging and beautiful, the piece takes the ensemble playing the Kruger Brothers are famous for to an entirely new level of musicianship. The Kruger Brothers’ bluegrass sound blended with symphonic music brings to life the history and and celebrates the culture of Appalachia. Recently, acclaimed composer Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), known Gaga, teamed up with one of the most sought-after voices in creative collaborations, North Carolina singer/songwriter Laurelyn Dossett, and the two embarked on a statewide, mountains-to-coast journey.
