Nov. 16, 2012. Tellabration is coming to Watauga County on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Tellabration is an annual storytelling event that is held all over the world to build community support for the craft and celebrate orators and the stories they tell on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
This year, the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis hosts the event in Watauga County on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will showcase Beech Mountain storytellers – Ted Hicks, son of the late legendary yarn spinner Ray Hicks, Orville Hicks, who is Ray’s cousin, and Tammy Sanabria, who grew up on Beech Mountain
and is also a Hicks. Sanabria’s storytelling name is Mountain TLC. Doyle Pace will emcee and also might tell a story or two.
Tellabration was founded by storyteller J.G. Pinkerton in Connecticut in 1988, and now operates under the umbrella of the National Storytelling Network.
In addition to the Mast General Store, Tellabration is sponsored by Watauga County Arts Council and Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living.
