Sept. 18, 2014. In recognition of her many contributions to healthcare in the High Country, Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation recently awarded Martha Guy with the Pinnacle Society Lifetime Achievement Award. The presentation took place during Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation’s annual Pinnacle Society Dinner at The Belvedere at Linville Ridge on Sept. 8.
Appalachian Regional Healthcare System Board of Trustees’ Vice Chairman and former recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, John Blackburn, presented Ms. Guy with the award. Blackburn stated that “it is an honor to be able to recognize one of my heroes.”
Guy, who ran Avery County Bank, founded by her father, until its sale in 2003, has provided leadership and financial support to improve healthcare in our region for many decades. She has served as a trustee for the Morrison Charitable Trust, an entity responsible for millions of dollars in healthcare funding to Avery County since 1968. Guy also served as Honorary Chairperson with Mariam Hayes during the $20 million capital campaign to build the new Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital.
Guy joins Kenneth Wilcox, John Blackburn, Spencer Robbins and Hugh Fields as the fifth recipient of the Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
