Feb. 6, 2015. Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman has released the following information:
On Feb. 4, 2015, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible sexual assault that had occurred in the Meat Camp community of Watauga County. Officers from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and talked with the victim of the alleged sexual assault. A report was taken by the responding officers.
Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation into the incident. As a result of the investigation, the following individual was charged and arrested:
James Randall Hoover, born in 1951, of 924 Briarwood Lane in Boone.
Hoover was charged with second degree sex offense, sexual battery, indecent exposure and false imprisonment. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of March 19, 2015 and is currently being held in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $175,500 secured bond.
