On Sept. 22, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Watauga County Department of Social Services alleging that a 14-year-old juvenile had been sexually assaulted between the dates of July 1, 2015 and August 26, 2015 at a residence located in Watauga County.
Sheriff Hagaman reported that the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Watauga County Department of Social Services, and the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge conducted an investigation into the incident.
Interviews were conducted with numerous individuals and as a result of the investigation the following individual was charged and arrested: Richard Thomas Stallsmith, 32, of 231 Smith Henson Road.
Richard Thomas Stallsmith was charged and arrested on Oct. 20, 2015, with one count of Statutory Rape of a 13-, 14-, 15-year-old, one count of Statutory Sex Offense with a 13-, 14-, or 15-year-old and one count of Indecent Liberties with a Child.
He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a court date of Nov. 25, 2015 and is currently being held in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.
