Maintenance To Result in Temporary Water Service Disruption To All Blowing Rock Customers Tuesday Night

April 14, 2014. All Town of Blowing Rock water customers should expect to be without water service beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. The work is expected to take no more than 8 hours to complete, so service is expected to be restored by 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16.

Immediately following completion of the work, lines in the area will be flushed by staff to help reduce sediment that may have been dislodged as a result of the maintenance. However, it is highly recommended that all customers run their cold water for a few minutes to help clear the lines once the water service has been restored.

Those who plan to perform laundry services on Wednesday morning should be particularly sure to monitor their water color upon service restoration. If any water discoloration should happen to persist after a few minutes, please contact Town Hall at (828) 295-5200. Should the work be completed sooner than 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 16, the water will be turned back on and the lines will be flushed as soon as the work has been completed.

This major water line maintenance is being planned specifically for the late evening on a Tuesday to help minimize impacts to our very important customers. This proactive maintenance work is necessary to help reduce the likelihood of pressure variations and unplanned service disruptions in the future.

In order to accommodate the work, only one lane in the vicinity of Highway 221 and Green Street will need to be closed beginning late the evening of Tuesday April 15 as contractors and staff begin to prepare the site. The lane closure will be clearly marked and personnel will be onsite to assist with traffic management as necessary; drivers do not need to use alternate routes during the times of the planned work.

In our effort to inform our customers so they can plan accordingly, we will be using our CodeRED automated notification system on Tuesday April 8 and again on Monday April 14th. For those customers and citizens who have not yet registered for this free service, they may do so through the CodeRED link on our website at www.townofblowingrock.com Messages may be received by telephone, email, text, or all three according to the customer’s selected preference.
