The Powerball jackpot continued to roll this week and is now an estimated $133 million if taken as an annuity or $84.9 million if taken as a lump sum.

Two players won big prizes this week after playing Powerball. Michael Harrison, who works for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Greensboro, won $10,000 in the Aug. 29 drawing. He used a series of family birthdays to pick his lucky numbers. He said he plans to use his winnings to put a down payment on a house and take a vacation.

Sharon Fox of Pinebluff matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win $10,000 in the Aug. 26 drawing.

Players holding tickets for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing have a chance at an $85 million annuity or $52.4 million if the cash option is chosen.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state annually. Net proceeds were used last year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
