Lost Province Brewing Company to Host Benefit for Two Employees on Wednesday

On Wednesday, April 29, Lost Province Brewing Company will hold a benefit for two of its employees who have acquired massive medical expenses over the last six to nine months. In addition to their regular menu of food and beer, there will be live music and a silent auction. The event will start at 6 p.m.lost province brewing

The event will benefit locals Carleen Berndt and Jake Rudolph, who have both worked at Lost Province since it opened in August 2014. Carleen was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Jake, a senior at Appalachian State, was recently diagnosed with a lung tumor that required surgery. Though both of them have health insurance, each has a high deductible to pay off for the years 2014 and 2015. When they heard about the expected high bills, their employer decided to step in and help out.

“We’re very committed to our employees,” said Lynn Mason, one of the owners of Lost Province. “We’re just trying to help them cover some of their out-of-pocket medical expenses.”

10 percent of all sales that night, in addition to the money from the silent auction, will go to a fund for these individuals to help with their medical bills.

The silent auction will include items from breweries in the area and more. Hilltop Riot, a local acoustic blues band, is set to perform.

Despite the serious circumstances surrounding the event, it will be anything but somber.

“We’re kind of celebrating both Carleen and Jake,” said Mason. “They’re making great progress.”

Lost Province is located on North Depot Street behind Mast General Store.
