Local PA Dr. Marian Peters Recognized by the NCCPA for Outstanding Service in the Community

In order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Physicians Assistant career, the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants has chosen 50 Physician Assistants who are making a difference in their communities today.

Dr. Marian Peters, PA-C, of the Community Care Clinic right here in the High Country was one of those spotlighted PAs that received recognition for her hardwork, dedication and compassion that she brings to Boone.

The CCC is a free clinic in Boone that was established by Dr. Peters in 2005 in order to provide healthcare for the poor in the county who can’t afford healthcare. Because she noticed that people were having to choose between shelter, food or or healthcare, she felt a call to provide assistance in the best way she could. Dr. Peters became the Clinic Director in November of 2009, meaning that she works directly with patient care while also supervising the other clinic staff.

Dr. Peters got her PhD in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and gained tenure at ASU where she taught for over ten years from 1994-2007. She left teaching in order to focus more on the CCC which evolved from being open 3 hours a week to function for more than 40 hours a week.

Through the CCC, Dr. Peters is changing lives for numerous low-income residents who cannot afford or do not have health care in a variety of areas, including primary care, mental health, neurology, physical therapy, gynecology and dermatology.
