Linville Ridge is pleased to announce that the Linville Ridge Employee Scholarship Fund Auction was held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. The fall themed fundraising event, in support of employees, was attended by members and guests who bid on spa services, clinics and lesson, private catered dinners, wine tastings and employee decorated pumpkins and raised a record breaking $73,285.00. This is twenty percent more than what was raised in 2015.
Linville Ridge has two scholarship funds: The F.H. “Sammy” Ross, Jr. Memorial Scholarship and the Gary “GJ” Johnston Leadership Scholarship. The scholarships, administered by the North Carolina CommunityFund, are for employees and their family members who meet certain requirements in order to qualify.
The F.H. “Sammy” Ross, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established in the Summer of 2000 through a generous donation from Margaret and Margo Ross, and contributions from many friends of Mr. Ross at Linville Ridge Country Club. The scholarship memorializes the spirit, generosity and integrity of Sammy Ross, a charter member of the Club, and his love for Linville Ridge – his friends, both members and staff.
The Gary “GJ” Johnston Leadership Scholarship was established in the Summer of 2007 by The Lutgert Companies as a means of recognizing and honoring Gary Johnston, who retired as a valuable employee of The Lutgert Companies and Linville Ridge Country Club after 23 years. GJ was always a strong advocate for Linville Ridge employees and instrumental in creating the Linville Ridge Employee Scholarship fund in 2000, when the first scholarship was named in memory of Sammy Ross, long-time Linville Ridge member and friend of GJ’s.
Since the inception of the scholarships, 86 scholarships have been granted providing financial resources and greater opportunities for employees and their families.
