Linville Falls Winery in Newland Offers Christmas Family Fun at the Red Barn Tree Farm through Dec. 22

By Madison Fisler Lewis

Nov. 25, 2014. Christmas is exactly one month away, and in the High Country, one of the best ways to enjoy a family outing in the wintertime is to grab the coats and the kids and head out to a farm to choose and cut your own Christmas tree. This year, Linville Falls Winery and the Red Barn Tree Farm will offer just that, and much more.

The Red Barn Tree Farm is family owned and operated by the Wiseman family, who also owns and operates Linville Falls Winery, and is located on the same property just north of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Hours for the choose and cut operation are 12 p.m. until dark Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. until dark Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 14.

Along with choosing beautiful Christmas trees, your family can also enjoy hayrides, complimentary hot refreshments, homemade garlands and wreaths and much more. A variety of locally handmade crafts from local artisans are available inside the winery as well for your shopping pleasure.

Crafts include ceramic trees, pottery, bath and body products, soy candles, beeswax candles, lip balm, jewelry, cutting boards, framed artwork and much more, said Linda Wiseman of Linville Falls Winery.

For a fantastic family outing, choose your tree and while it is being bailed and loaded up for you, take some time to enjoy some hot drinks by the fire, shop around for some handmade gifts and enjoy quality time together.

“You really get the best of both worlds,” Wiseman said. “We ask you to pick out your tree before you have your wine of course. You can bring your family and go and pick out your tree, and then you have all these things to do while you are waiting for us to get it loaded up. It gives people a chance to see work from local artisans and to have time to spend together. It is really fun, and the whole concept is very family-oriented.”

And of course, no trip to Linville Falls Winery would be complete without a complimentary wine tasting of any two wines of your choice and going home with a bottle or two for yourself or to give as a gift to a loved one. This holiday, try out the signature Cherry Bounce with the new limited edition Christmas Label to put a little extra cheer in your holiday.

“We are a family and we are local, and we welcome families to come out and join us,” said Wiseman. “We have breathtaking views, we have a 40-acre farm covered with 10 acres of vines and 30 acres of trees, a state of the art tasting room, hay rides, complimentary hot chocolate and cider. We welcome children, dogs and outside food, so you can really make a full-day outing out here and spend some time together.”
