A lightning bolt killed a lay minister riding a motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Saturday afternoon.
Scott Pasour, a lay minister at Venture Church and owner of Pasour Auto Repair in Dallas, and two other motorcyclists were stopped near the entrance of Mount Mitchell State Park when a bolt of lightning struck Pasour in the helmet and “left a mark in the pavement where [he] was standing,” according to the Gaston Gazette.
The paper reported that he was pronounced dead after being flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville. The other cyclists weren’t hurt, although they were standing just feet away form Pasour.
“Scott Pasour loved Christ. He loved the church. He loved his family and he loved people,” Austin Rammell, pastor of Venture Church in Dallas, told the Gaston Gazette. “I just don’t know of any other way to describe him.”
According to the Venture Church, funeral arrangements are scheduled for Thursday, July 21 in Gaston from 4 to 6 p.m.
