Life Care Center of Banner Elk’s Back to School Fling to Be A Success Aug. 10 Thanks to Donors and Volunteers

by Madison V. Fisler

Aug. 6, 2013. The Aug. 1 deadline for school supply donations passed last week, and the Life Care Center of Banner Elk’s Back to School Fling looks like it will be able to serve more than 500 children in need of school supplies this year. School supplies collected included pencils, composition books, notebooks, crayons, colored pencils, safety scissors, rulers, glue sticks, backpacks, erasers and other things needed by community children for their school year.

“So far we have collected $300 as well as several hundred items including pencils, paper, crayons, folders and other things from different business donors,” said Star Gardner of the Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

On Aug. 10, the Life Care Center of Banner Elk will host the Back to School Fling, a free event that will allow K-8 students in Avery County to come out and collect necessary school supplies free of charge.

The Fling, which is open to the community and free of charge, will offer much more than school supplies.

There will also be live musical entertainment, face painting and even hot dogs.

Life Care Center of Banner Elk is still seeking volunteers for the event. Interested parties can contact the Life Care Center of Banner Elk at 828-898-5136.

“We want to say thank you to all of our sponsors who have donated, and to all of the volunteers who have volunteered to help,” said Gardner.
