LETTERS / When Government Belongs to the Wealthiest, Democracy Vanishes

Dear Editor,

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels

Most of our daily lives are dominated by the small number of people who understand the mental processes and social patterns of crowds. They push the buttons which control “consumers” minds. The elite say they have to shape “consumers” minds so society functions smoothly which means they do it to keep their control. They’re behind the daily dose of lies, disinformation, and distractions keeping “consumers” anesthetized.

When facing reality after you’ve believed the lies you’re disoriented, especially if you try to continue living the delusion. The Americans who died in Iraq died for the same reason Americans died in Vietnam: lies. They killed all those people for nothing; they died for Empire, enabling all those “successful defense” contractors, and the politicians they own, to fill their pockets with ever-increasing budgets.

Those in power distract “consumers” with trivial emotional issues like gay marriage, party politics, and phantom terror threats, so the masses don’t focus on how badly they are being screwed by the One Party invisible government/Empire.

We’ve changed Republic into Empire. You may have Empire with or without a constitution, and with or without an “emperor”. Republics make war, conquer territory, and get colonies, so consider the things that create empire; the “leader” has overriding power, domestic policy is step-child to interfering foreign activities, an organization of satellite nations for “collective security” exists, and emotional fear is spread. Three quarters of our resources are spent on military adventures.

The Empire’s chosen therapy is to bring other nations democracy. “Saddam has nuclear weapons. Assad is gassing his own people. Russia is to blame for Ukraine.” Need I say more, though it would be easily done?

In Syria, the ‘Islamist militants’ are ‘rebels’ who are on ‘our’ side because they oppose ‘tyrannical’ Assad. In Iraq, those militants are ‘insurgents’ because they oppose the Empire-imposed and supported ‘democracy’ there.

The president easily says: “I know things that you don’t know” arguing that until achieving their definition of “national security”, everything must be sacrificed for our foreign adventures. Both “parties” attack Medicare, Social Security, public education and other vital necessities while making available limitless resources for Wall Street and “our” military machine.

Military thinking is all around us. Our bankruptcy hasn’t brought serious review of America’s dangerous military “interests”. You can’t watch TV without being subjected to syrupy gratitude for “service to our country”. Those in uniform believe they’re serving but Kissinger said; “Military men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy”.

At home “Our Empire” creates many innocent injured, terrorized, and dead from the growing police violence in our country. How many children and family pets will be murdered by marauding SWAT teams before such tactics are unacceptable? How many communities will be distorted into military outposts, with heavily armed police, military tanks, and “safety” checkpoints before we say “not in our town”? “Let me see your papers” has come to America.

Americans waste billions of dollars each year supporting Satellites called allies and plan wars to “defend” countries worldwide. Americans are on call should Europe, Japan, South Korea, Israel, and other nations find themselves threatened even when they provoked the supposed threat. America is bankrupt, in many ways, by supporting this Empire.

An emotional maze of fear owns America. Government officials beat their chests describing how powerful, exceptional, and indispensable America is. They say no one can challenge America’s dominance in the world. At the same time they warn “consumers” to fear terrorism, China, Russia, Latin American drug lords, and assorted other “threats”.

Politicians say that America’s responsibilities to the world can’t be avoided. It’s not a choice because we’re the Empire. It’s the Empire’s responsibility for “moral leadership” in the world, to maintain “a balance of power against the forces of evil” everywhere, to keep the peace of the world, to save civilization. This is how Empire lies/speaks. Empire’s are always evil, even when it isn’t obvious.

We’re told America’s Empire is unique because it’s dedicated to freedom and peace but the regimes America installs/supports aren’t, including its own. Empire’s price is bankruptcy except for its architects. Convenient “enemies” create support from unaware, brainwashed, powerless “consumers” for war and the military/security complex at the expense of humanity globally.

America is busy committing suicide while the ruling corporate oligarchs and their hand-picked political front men act like conquering heroes. Their arrogance is matched by the fear, and openness to propaganda of “consumers”.

The American banker/military/corporate empire is the largest human hierarchy ever occupying the planet. It’s based on economic coercion, enforced by a powerful military and covert-operations machinery. America controls the World money supply, the dollar. Any potential threat to the dollar by unapproved currencies is attacked.

Loans/debt/extortion and corporate marauders are the favored resource pillaging mechanisms against national economies. When local elites don’t cooperate, governments fall and paramilitary/military mass murder and national destruction result. Ask any Latin American.

The Israel Lobby ensures policy discipline among Western politicians, and media. The Empire/Israel is embarked on a vicious, murderous project without end in the Middle East selling this to “consumers” as acceptable and unavoidable.

We’re told we can change all this using the system. Show us how and where that effectively happens. Even if you choose non-violent protest you’re a “terrorist”, attacked by uniformed assassins and jailed. “Let’s bomb them until they stop hating us” obviously doesn’t work. If you need violence to enforce your ideas, your ideas are worthless.

When government belongs to the wealthiest, democracy vanishes. Think for yourself.
