LETTERS / Watauga Arts Council Gives Thanks for Those Supporting Construction Project at Artspace

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Watauga County Arts Council, I want to thank all of the volunteers, organizations and local businesses which have helped the WCAC put on a new face for 2017.

Thanks to a grant from Appalachian and the Communities Together (ACT), we were able to install new windows at the Blue Ridge Artspace in December. ACT is a student and community organization at ASU founded to strengthen the relationship between the campus and the community. This grant is given to support energy efficient practices by non-profit organizations. This project was also made possible with the help of New River Building Supply and Tracy A. Lunceford Construction.

During our January hiatus, WCAC volunteers have repainted our galleries, classrooms and gift shop. Students from ACT also came to paint as part of the MLK challenge to provide community service to local non-profit organizations. Thanks to all who gave up a Saturday to come and paint. Special thanks again to New River Building Supply for donating paint for the project.

We are now ready for a Grand Re-opening on February 11 when we will resume our Second Saturday Celebration of the Arts with an exhibit featuring the work of our Watauga County High School artists. We will have artist demonstrations, book signings and live music from 5:30-7:30 pm. The public is invited to come on over to the Blue Ridge Artspace and support our young artists. We are located at the corner of State Farm Road and Shadowline Drive- the building with the blue people on the front!
