LETTERS / Thank You for Supporting Holiday Heroes Program During Holiday Season

Dear Editor,

The Project on Aging Staff would like to give a great big thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s second annual Holiday Heroes a success!  The Holiday Heroes program is similar to the Angle Tree idea that many of us are familiar with in our area.

However, the Holiday Heroes program was specifically designed to assist mostly older adults who would not be receiving gifts over the holiday season.

Names and items requested were received from Project on Aging Staff and Department of Social Services Adult Services staff as individuals who would not be receiving gifts this holiday season.  Individuals were chosen based on income and/or limited family support.

Through generous support and open hearts by our community the all of the names on our tree were taken and every need was met.  Local area churches, individuals in the community and participants at the senior center joined together to purchase all of the items that were listed on our tree.

Many of the clients that Project on Aging serves would have gone without gifts this holiday season had it not been for the wonderful people in our community.  We are fortunate to live in such a loving and caring community.  Thank you again to everyone who helped to make the event a success!

If you have questions about the Project on Aging or ways to continue to assist older adults in our area please feel free to call 828-265-8090.
