LETTERS / My Feelings on Charges Filed Against Me for Rescuing Puppy in Dire Condition

Aug. 1, 2014. I have been asked to comment on my feelings about the charges filed and carried out by Avery County Sheriff’s Department concerning the rescuing of a puppy in dire conditions.

I have taken full responsibility for my actions. I have never denied or tried to hide it. I will do 24 hours community service at our local humane society and that is a beautiful thing. I am all about supporting and building up our community through service and action.

I have many thanks to give. I would like to thank Judge Ted McIntyre and our new District Attorney Seth Banks an his staff for being reasonable. Thanks goes to my attorney Shelley Blum, who is truly a good and kind lawyer. Thank you to the Avery County Humane society for remaining steadfast  and concerned for the welfare of animals.

Special thanks to the director of our local humane society, Bruce Malfone. He has endured much needless negativity and yet remained firm and loyal against animal abuse. Of course I want to thank the hundreds of supporters both known and unknown who have defended me and helped me through this. Many blessings to those who have taken a stand against animal abuse and all who have shown love.

After all that has been said and done my beliefs as to the way animals should be treated has not changed. We have common state laws to protect animals from abuse and neglect. The avery county sheriff’s department has chosen not to enforce these laws. I refuse to play the slander game in the paper or on any social media websites ( like Facebook) as some  have sadly chosen. The fact is there is still much work to be done in Avery County for the welfare of animals.

I genuinely hope this ordeal has raised public awareness regular ding the plight of abused and neglected animals in our community. I intend to remain active locally in animal welfare and I encourage our community to do the same. Each of us can be a voice for the voiceless. As a community, together we can make a difference for the better.
