LETTERS / America Is Now a Battlefield

Dear Editor,

We’re told America is now a battlefield. A battlefield isn’t somewhere people can enjoy any freedom except for temporary times when government says we’re allowed, briefly. We just need more laws. We need access to everything about everyone. Our anti-terrorist laws didn’t stop one “terrorist” as they continue to save us with more anti-terrorist laws.

The Boston bombing displayed a new tool in “our government’s” dictionary, commonly used in prisons, now being used in public. ‘Lockdown’ is the new catch phrase the government-mainstream media complex is operating to catch criminals that are really dangerous. No one seems to care that ‘lockdown’ is a full violation of the Constitution, freedom and America.

The message is that in a lock-down the suspect must be real dangerous, and catching this suspect is more important than anything else. We’re to believe this “danger-meter” determines your rights. We’re to believe the same government that has killed millions globally is so concerned for your personal safety that it feels obligated to violate all your God-given rights to catch one suspect.

The police are using the term ‘lockdown’ when they’re looking for a special suspect because it’s martial law in disguise. “Our Government” has set the standard for martial law. Now they need only create a story to ‘lockdown’ the next city they choose.

Events in Boston have displayed the method of dictatorial rule in America. A violent act, perhaps with the help of elements within the state, as the FBI has done before, is declared a terrorist event. A state of siege is imposed suspending rights and establishing military and police control.

The propaganda parakeets continue chirping, as an arm of the state, providing the excuse, whipping up the necessary fear and panic. The official agreement that freedom can’t be maintained after violence by a few, displays the breakdown of American freedom.

The house-to-house searches we have just witnessed set a precedent in which Americans allow measures that significantly raise the likelihood of further tyranny in the future. These searches are illegal and set the stage for further measures that repress liberty. These searches follow closely upon the heels of other measures that have already laid the foundation of an American police state.

During a manhunt for a bombing suspect, police and federal agents were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised, and then storming the homes to perform their illegal searches.

To some, America is an innocent victim of unwarranted terrorist attacks from Muslims, and anything Americans do either overseas or at home in the name of fighting terrorism is justified, but we started it, creating hatred by attacking and occupying other countries brutally enforcing the will of American politicians.

Americans have spent trillions of dollars in the name of “fighting terrorism”, yet we’ve seen that all that couldn’t stop a couple of men from attacking a major American event.

What’s the response? The State obviously needs more power with most on the angry Right, or fearful Left, incapable of making the connection between expanding government authority and its heavy-handed use against people who are no threat to others. The show must go on.

We’re told terrorists attack America because they are driven to do so by allegiance to a religion of violence. Putting that behavior in context with American foreign policy is ignored; couldn’t be Revenge. People resort to terrorism when they have been backed into a corner and see no alternative. The national fiction wants to convince you that American foreign policy hasn’t caused these feelings; that “Radical Islam” is the cause and “blowback” doesn’t exist.

Murder conducted by “our government” is morally no different than murder conducted by a crazed towel head. We’re horrified when an American child dies at the hands of a lunatic. I imagine people in the Middle East feel the same way. Innocent bystanders, whether in Damascus, Kabul, Baghdad or Boston, end up paying the price for American activities which leave a trail of blood and disaster everywhere.

“Yeah, there are problems in this country, but at least we have some freedom.  In many countries, you wouldn’t be allowed to complain the way you are.” Freedom, in their minds, is a privilege doled out by government, rather than a right outside of the empire of law.  They don’t recognize that the violation of the rights of one American is a violation of the rights of all Americans.  They don’t understand that the destruction of some legal protections will one day lead to the destruction of all legal protections.

Why do you believe that individuals become competent when they join government, the military, or the police? The various individuals and institutions involved in the Boston horror-farce are no more competent than the average person. Given the powers and weapons at their disposal, they’re more dangerous. Those who patrolled Boston are exactly as competent as that well-intentioned person who took your order at lunch, and got it wrong.

The war on terror is over and America has lost. Look at the images of the Watertown lockdown. A city under a “voluntary” lockdown that was enforced by SWAT teams going door to door, removing people from their own homes at gunpoint. Whatever the use of the word “voluntary” might mean, I defy anyone to differentiate these images from martial law. If the terrorists hate you for your freedom who are the terrorists, and who is trying to take away your freedom?
