LETTERS / A Salute to Using Local Vendors

Dear Commissioners:

The Board of Directors of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce wishes to salute the Watauga County Board of Commissioners for considering a policy that would provide preference to local vendors in the purchasing of equipment and supplies for the county.

We understand your position would be that a local company would be extended the chance to match a low bid provided by an out-of-county business, if the local company were within 5% or $10,000 of the low bid.

We applaud this proposal and are delighted to see that Watauga County is  desiring to ShopLOCAL – an effort the Chamber has been championing for several years.  Your action would parallel Appalachian State University’s workshop for local businesses on ‘how to do business with ASU’, held earlier this week.  Over 50 interested parties attended.

The Chamber gladly supports your proposal and will relay that support to Rep. Jonathan Jordan and Sen. Dan Soucek in their consideration of a state-wide initiative.

Thank you for thinking of Watauga business FIRST!  We all need to…

Sincerely,

Dan Meyer

Boone Area Chamber of Commerce
