Lend Me a Tenor: See This Hilarious Play at LMC Summer Theatre Starting Wednesday

After a great production of Oliver!, the cast and crew of Lees-McRae Summer Theatre is excited to begin on their next show of the season, Lend Me a Tenor. This production will be performed on July 15-18 at 7 p.m. and July 16, 18 and 19 at 2 p.m.LMC_Summer_Theatre_Photo_LendMeATenor

Dr. Janet Speer, artistic director of Summer Theatre, says Lend Me a Tenor is the funniest show of our time. Lend Me a Tenor won the Tony for Best Play and Best Revival of a Play. The New York Times says it is “one of two great farces by a living writer.” The London Times says, “A remarkable piece of theatre… a masterpiece… Author Ken Ludwig has verve, a sound grasp of plot mechanics and a rare ability to couple high art with low comedy.” Tito Morelli, famous opera star, is supposed to perform Otello, but Tito has been given tranquilizers so the manager has to find someone else to play his role. Once Tito awakens, we have two “Otellos,” two women in lingerie who think they are Tito’s lover and the manager in one mishap after another.

Lend Me a Tenor is one of the funniest plays I’ve ever had the joy to see and to direct,” said Dr. Michael Hannah, director of Lend Me a Tenor. “It has been called one of the best farces ever written and audiences have loved it for nearly 30 years. Sometimes we just need to forget about our troubles and sit back and laugh, and Tenor provides that opportunity. Its fast pace and constant action have made it a perennial favorite and our Summer Theatre cast of both new and familiar faces is sure to make it one of the most entertaining evenings our audiences will have in a long time.”
