Lees-McRae College Experiences Six Percent Overall Enrollment Increase for Second Consecutive Year

Oct. 14, 2014. Facing fierce competition from the collegiate marketplace, Lees-McRae College is pleased to report an overall enrollment for fall 2014 of 941 students, up from 890 students in 2013. This marks a 6 percent enrollment growth for the second consecutive year. In addition to this growth, the college has also experienced an 11 percent increase in its retention rate in the last two years.

LMCAt the start of the fall 2014 semester, 661 students were enrolled on the main Banner Elk campus, 280 students were enrolled through extended campus and online learning programs hosted at Mayland Community College, Western Piedmont Community College, Surry Community College or online. The college began offering full online degree completion programs in Spring 2014 and in just two semesters, online learning students now account for 14 percent of the total enrollment.

A growth in enrollment only increases our ability to provide outstanding opportunities for the entire college community.”

The start of the Fall 2014 semester also brought several new programs including pre-licensure nursing (pending NCBON approval), emergency medical services and management, human services and history.
