Leatherwood Mule Days on May 1 to Support Cowgirls Undergoing Cancer Treatment

FERGUSON — Leatherwood Mountains Resort will be hosting the third annual Mule Days Celebration. There will be over 130 mules and donkeys from nine states in attendance. Free to attend and watch! Here is your chance to get up close and personal with some of the countries top mules and donkeys. Bring your folding chair, because you are going to want to stay all day! The event this year is being held as a Fund Raiser for Lope For Hope, an organization helping Cow Girls who are undergoing cancer treatments.

Friday morning, free educational seminars and live demonstrations will be hosted featuring a world champion mule packer, professional equine massage therapist and a natural balance hoof trimmer.  At 1:30 p.m., don’t miss the Supreme Trail Mule Challenge Competition followed by a Mule Coon Jumping Competition.

Leatherwood will also be hosting a Dutch Oven Cook Off on Friday. Preregister and begin cooking on Saturday morning for a 3:30 p.m. time judging, including a people choice award. We will conclude Friday evening with a live auction of handmade and unique items to fund raise for Lope For Hope.

Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with a Mule and Donkey Show in the main arena. Come see mules and donkeys perform in halter, Western Pleasure, Trail Classes and more.  A silent auction will be held in the covered arena.  At 4 p.m., don’t miss the parade through the grounds with competitions going on for Best Mule, Best Dressed Girl, Best Hitch, etc. Saturday evening  will feature the Mule Celebration Dinner and awards from all the competitions.

Free events for the younger kids will be hosted. Enter the coloring contest, join in on a scavenger hunt and even bring your own or decorate your own stick mule to participate in the Stick Mule Class in the Show on Saturday.
