May 7, 2014. You know it’s time to start planting once that last patch of snow atop Sugar Mountain Resort has melted.

Kim Jochl of Sugar Mountain Resort hiked to the mountaintop and took the above photo on Tuesday.

“Not that much snow left this time. When I was hiking I was expecting to run into a larger patch.  I kept hiking and hiking and hiking until finally that’s all there was!  Sort of a bummer!” Jochl wrote in an email.

Jochl was referring to last year’s patch of snow that was bigger and still around by May 14. See the photo of last year’s snow remains below.

While the last patch of snow melting is “sort of  a bummer,” it just means that it is time for some awesome bike riding on Sugar Mountain, fabulous weddings at the resort, summer ski lift rides to the mountaintop for breathtaking views, Sugar Brew a summer festival with beer, wine and live music and much more.

Check out more summer offerings at Sugar Mountain Resort here.
