Appalachian Ski Mountain hosted a slopestyle competition this past Saturday as part of the High Country Junior Freestyle Series. It was really cold but the conditions were perfect thanks to the incredible snowmaking and grooming crew at Appalachian Ski Mtn.
The event was held in the Appalachian Terrain Park where athletes skied or snowboarded down an obstacle course that included rails and jumps. Each athlete was allowed three runs. A team of judges, staged at various points throughout the course, evaluated heights of jumps, degrees of trick difficulty, execution and personal style.
Thirty athletes competed in the event, 21 representing Appalachian Ski Mountain and nine representing Beech Mountain. Ten of the competitors were girls which was the highest number ever to compete in an HCJFS event.
