Oct. 5, 2012. Of the many options for Watauga County Counselor of the Year, Kelly Baruth was the chosen one for 2012. After being nominated by an administrator, she was voted to receive the award in recognition of her duties as a counselor at Blowing Rock School, which goes from grades pre k-8.
According to the North Carolina School Counselor Association, a counselor of the year, “Must show evidence of innovations in counseling.” The person must also, “…demonstrate leadership in the field of counseling.” Looks as if Blowing Rock has themselves a standout counselor.
Receiving the award is not something that was expected by Baruth. “I was very excited.” she said. “I was humbled. I was overwhelmed. I was very surprised.”
She very much values her job as a counselor at Blowing Rock School. Her duties as a resource to students are very helpful both in and out of the classroom.
“I love working with the kids, the faculty and the parents.” Baruth said. “I am very blessed.”
After receiving the award, Baruth is now moving on to compete against other people who have won the Counselor of the Year award in their county. That award that will be the State Counselor of the Year. With the support of the central office of Watauga County Schools, she is hoping to gain recognition on an even higher level.
