June 2 ‘Lunch and Learn’ at Jones House for The Mountain Minor, Filmed in Todd

Mountain Minor – Trailer from WonderlandWoods.TV on Vimeo.

On Friday, June 2 at noon, there will be a Lunch And Learn about The Mountain Minor movie at the Jones House Community Center. The Mountain Minor is a movie about Appalachian music and culture that will be filmed in Todd this summer.

Most films that present Appalachian music feature trained actors that learn old time and bluegrass music styles for the film. This is not the case for this truly independent film that places a unique emphasis on authentic Appalachian music. It features area musicians Trevor McKenzie, Asa Nelson and Hazel Pasley as well as internationally renowned players Dan Gellert, Elizabeth LaPrelle and Mike Oberst of the Tillers. Director Dale Farmer believes that the intimate knowledge these musicians have of mountain music and culture will carry over into their acting and bring this story to life.

The Boone-based Wonderland Woods Productions is helping to produce this film.

This is an opportunity for the community to learn more about this film project in process. Everybody is invited to bring a paper bag lunch and come listen to Dale Farmer, writer/director, discuss his project and screen the film trailer. This lunch program will include live music by Trevor McKenzie, Asa Nelson, Susan Pepper and Amy Clay.

On Thursday, June 1 during the regular weekly jam session at the Jones House, Farmer will also be screening his trailer and available to answer questions about the project. Thursday night jams start at 7:30 p.m.

These programs are free and open to the public. The Jones House Community Center is located at 406 W. King St. For more info, call (828)268-6280
