History will come alive in Blowing Rock on August 5 when the Daniel Boone Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution hosts one of its most unique fundraisers, to date.

“Teas and Toddies, a traditional 18th century tea party will take the women’s ongoing efforts to support local service projects to a new level when the Blowing Rock Country Club is transformed to an earlier time and place. Festivities get under way at 5 p.m. and promises to be a highlight of your High Country summer.

“Tea and Toddies” will be an historic event to remember, featuring specially blended tea, wine, hors d’oeuvres, petit fours, a silent auction and commemorative program.

According to Chapter Regent Jill Privott, “Tea and Toddies” is proud to partner with world-class tea blender and merchant, Joy Wujek, founder of the internationally known Petali Teas and Marmalade Tea Shop in Blowing Rock. A specially blended tea will be served for the occasion, utilizing 18th-century historical references, including infused botanicals, spices and aromatics.

Featured “toddies” will include champagne punch, a tradition in the 18th century. Featured local wines will be served, compliments of vintner Sally Tatum, owner of Grandfather Winery. A locally- brewed toddy will be provided by Beech Mountain Brewery. Guests will also enjoy renowned musician Amanda Matthews and vocalist Evan Adair.

A distinctive silent auction will include opportunities for a flying lesson, a private party for up to 75 at The Blowing Rock, a golf found for four at the Blowing Rock Golf Course, in addition to a number of fine arts and crafts items.

Carson Sailor, representing Horn in the West, will serve as emcee for the event, with special guest, Blowing Rock Mayor Charles Sellers in attendance. Costumed period interpreters will also be an integral part of the historic gathering, which will add to the authenticity of the evening.

The “Tea and Toddies” committee includes the following: Hosts, Alice Roess and Brenda Councill; event chair, Teresa Shadoin; Zela Beckett, Sandra Ford, Freda Greene, Mary Moretz, Phyllis Bumbaugh, Pamela Garner, Donna McNeil and Leah Parks.
